PAUNANG SALITA
Ang unang edisyon nito ay nalathala noong 1999. At ang aklat na iyon marahil ang kauna-unahang antolohiya ng tulang Aklanon na isinulat ng isang Aklanon. Sa ikalawang edisyong ito, bukod sa mga bagong tula ko, kalakip pa rin ang mga tula sa unang edisyon. Karamihan sa mga tulang ito ay mga tula kong nagwagi sa iba’t ibang paligsahan katulad ng Home Life poetry contest, NCCA All-Western Visayans Poetry Contest, at iba pa. Nagpapasalamat ako sa mga editor ng mga sumusunod na mga magasin kung saan unang nalathala ang karamihan sa mga tula sa koleksyong ito: Home Life, Philippine Panorama, Bueabod, Aklan Reporter, Media Watch, Yuhum, Busay, Dagyaw, Philippines Graphic, Philippines Free Press, Ani, Patubas, Liwayway, at iba pa. Upang maunawaan ng hindi Aklanon ang mga tula ko rito, sinalin ko sa Filipino ang bawat tula ko rito. May mga salitang Aklanon na sadyang sinama sa pagsalin bilang kontribusyon ko sa pagpausbong ng Wikang Filipino.

Huwag nang umiyak,

Sa plasa o sa tarmak.

Bangon at magmartsa laban

Melchor F. Cichon is a librarian by day and a writer by night. A native of Sta. Cruz, Lezo, Aklan, Cichon finished Master of Library Science at U.P. Diliman, and Master in Management (Public Management) at U.P. Visayas, Iloilo City. At present he works as a librarian at the Aklan Catholic College, Kalibo, Aklan. He used to work as a librarian at the U.P. Visayas Library, Iloilo City and later at the U.P. Visayas Library, Miag-ao, Iloilo, where he was awarded twice as an outstanding employee of the year. He attended the National Summer Creative Writing Workshop in Dumaguete City, the Third Iligan National Writers Workshop and Literature Teachers Conference in 1996, and the UPV Centennial First All-Visayas Workshop held in U.P. Tacloban in 2008. In 2009, he edited and published The Best 32 Aklanon Poets. Two years after, he edited Matimgas nga Paeanoblion: Anthology of Poems Written by Aklanons, and in 2012 he published his first collection of haiku, Siniad-Siad nga Kaeangitan (Strips of Heavens). Some of his poems have been published in Hiligaynon, Yuhum, Philippines Free Press, Philippines Graphic, Home Life, Philippine Collegian, Aklan Reporter, Philippine Panorama, Pagbutlak, Dagyaw, Banga, Patubas, Busay, Media Watch, San-Ag, Liwayway, Ani, and Heron’s Nest. He won first prize in the first Home Life poetry contest in 1994. He is also the first Aklanon Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) grantee for Aklanon poetry in 1994. On August 25, 2011, he was given the 2001 Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas Award. The award was presented to him by the Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Filipinas (UMPIL). On April 25, 2011, he was awarded as an Outstanding Aklanon in the Field of Culture and Arts by the Province of Aklan.
